Working with Files

Create a new file from scratch or form your own templates. You can create the following file types:

  • PHP
  • SQL
  • HTML
  • XML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • VBScript
  • Java
  • C#
  • Perl
  • Smarty
  • Python
  • Ruby

Create a New File

  • In the File menu, click New… (shortcut: CTRL+N)
  • Select the file type
  • Click OK

Create a New File Based (Template)

  • From the Getting Started window, select the file type in the categories
  • Double-click on the template you wish to use as a template for your new document

Open an Existing File

File menu:

  • On the File menu, click Open… (shortcut: CTRL+O)
  • Browse your local system for the file(s) you wish to open
  • Click OK

Panel:

  • On the Tool Panels, select the File Browser tab
  • Browse your local system for the file(s) you wish to open
  • Double-click on the file you wish to open

Getting Started:

  • In the Getting Started window, click the button Browse…
  • Browse your local system for the file you wish to open
  • Double-click on the file you wish to open

Drag-and-drop:

  • Select the file(s) from your file system (e.g. from Windows Explorer)
  • Drag and drop the file(s) inside phpDesigner

Open a Recent File

  • From the Getting Started window, select the recent file you wish to open
  • Double-click on the file in order to open it

Open an Existing File on the FTP

  • In the File menu, click Open file from FTP
  • Select your FTP
  • Browser your FTP
  • Double-click on the file in order to open it

Detect changes made to opened files in phpDesigner 7 by other programs

phpDesigner 7 can automatically detect changes made to opened files in phpDesigner 7 made by external programs.

  • On the Tools menu, point to Preferences
  • Select General
  • Check 'automatically detect changes…'

File Format

Files can be stored in the following file formats:

  • Windows
  • Linux
  • Macintosh

On the File menu, click File Format and select Windows, Linux or Mac

File Encoding

Files can be encoded in the following file formats:

  • Ansi
  • Utf 8 (with or without BOM)
  • Utf 16 le/be (with or without BOM)

On the File menu, click File Encoding

Duplicate File

Create a new file, based on the current file.

  • On the File menu, click Duplicate File
  • On the Tab menu, right-click and select Duplicate File

Revert File

Revert the current file, if the file has been changed since it was loaded.

  • On the File menu, click Revert File

Rename File

Rename the name of the current file and its file extension.

  • On the File menu, click Rename File
